Engineers touch every part of our lives from the roads we drive on to the water we drink, from our cell phones to electrical outlets we use to recharge them. And the amazing part is -- anyone can be an engineer! With the wide array of career paths for engineers, there are so many opportunities to find your passion in engineering. Engineers make a real difference in the world every day. If you know someone who would make a great engineer - send them our way! See all the EWeek Activities across the state below! |

South Dakota is recognizing the vital role engineers play in shaping our communities and improving daily life.
Governor Larry Rhoden has officially proclaimed Wednesday, August 6, 2025, as Professional Engineers Day in South Dakota, honoring the dedication, expertise, and public service of professional engineers across the state.
Professional engineers design and maintain the infrastructure we rely on every day — from roads, bridges, and water systems to buildings, energy systems, and emerging technologies. This proclamation highlights the importance of engineering in protecting public safety, supporting economic growth, and advancing innovation throughout South Dakota.
In addition to the statewide proclamation, several communities joined in recognizing Professional Engineers Day. We extend our sincere thanks to the following mayors for issuing local proclamations:
Oep Niemeyer, Mayor of Brookings
Garry Symens, Mayor of Dell Rapids
Gloria Hanson, Mayor of Fort Pierre
Steve Harding, Mayor of Pierre
Jason Salamun, Mayor of Rapid City
Paul TenHaken, Mayor of Sioux Falls
The South Dakota Engineering Society appreciates the leadership shown at both the state and local levels in recognizing the contributions of professional engineers. We are proud to celebrate the engineers who serve South Dakota’s communities with skill, integrity, and commitment.
Happy Professional Engineers Day to all who help build and sustain our state.
